Most Famous MIT Alumni, CEOs and Graduates
Let's talk about some of the top founders and inventors that came out of MIT University. Whether you're an MIT alum, or if you're just somebody who wants to know more about MIT, pay attention. The following 3 people had the biggest impact on today's society and they came out of MIT.
The first on our list is a guy named William Hewlett. You might not have heard of William Hewlett, but you've definitely heard of the company Hewlett-Packard Company. He is the Hewlett in Hewlett-Packard along with his co-founder David Packard. Hewlett graduated from MIT in the 30s with a Masters of Science, and went on to create much of today's modern computing technology. He died in 2001 and vis-à-vis his foundation, and his investments, he was not just a part of Hewlett-Packard, but he was a part of Agilent Technologies and Keysight. He's number one on our list for his impact on technology as a whole.
Number 2 on our list is Ben Bernanke. Ben Bernanke was the guy who was the underneath or was the underpinning for the modern day Federal Reserve. As a Federal Reserve chairman, he was responsible for much of the interest rate quantitative easing process that took place roughly between 2008 to about 2015 or so in which the interest rates were held to the lowest point in years. That was to combat the economic crisis that took place in the 2000s. Fun fact, Ben Bernanke scored a 1590 on a 1600 on his SAT. He was a national merit scholar. Then, after actually having gone undergrad to Harvard, he then went and received his Ph.D. degree in economics from MIT.
The reason we put him in the category of most famous alum is because of the impact during the economic crisis and the aftermath but also because in our world of venture capital, without that quantitative easing, without that ability for free-flowing cash, much of the startups of today would not exist so thanks, Ben.
The third on our list is a guy named Drew Houston. Drew Houston is an alum of MIT, graduating with a degree in computer science and was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He is, of course, the founder and CEO of Dropbox. Dropbox is now one of the largest, fastest-growing computer storage and software storage in the cloud that exists. He's worth a billion plus dollars. He did actually graduate from MIT with a degree in computer science. HWe put him on the far right here because he is one of the emerging players out of MIT.
